COURSE PURPOSE & OVERVIEW: The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the major anatomical systems of the human body. A midwife who understands the body and how it functions, is far more capable of helping her clients with specific problems that may arise during pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum. A basic knowledge of anatomy and physiology is an indispensable component of midwifery training. This course covers identification and basic functions of various body systems, i.e.: skin, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, digestive, urinary, and reproductive. There is also discussion on how pregnancy affects body systems.
